            First of all let me wish you all a happy and  prosperous 2020 and a hearty welcome to the 41st Annual Day celebrations of Sabarigiri English School Anchal the first CBSE school in Kollam district. With immense pleasure and pride let me present before you the Annual Report of the academic year 2019-2020.

Our former president  Honourable   Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam said We are all born with a divine fire in us. Our efforts should be to give wings to this fire and fill the world with the glow of its goodness.

            We have a great personality who had awakened and discovered the latent strength in him and utilized it for the development of our society. Yes, the founder and chairman Dr. V.K. Jayakumar, a great visionary who is an epitome in the field of education, literature, health and philanthropy to mention a few. Let us have a glance of the major achievements of 2019-2020.

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE

Academic Excellence is the hallmark of any good institution. This year also the school was able to produce excellent result in Class X and Class XII. The hard work and dedication put in by the teaching staff, the enthusiastic participation of the students and the boundless support of the parents helped us to contribute to this excellence.

Let us have a glance over the results of Class X and XII.

Toppers are as follows:

Total 113 students appeared for Class XII Board Exam. 16 students scored above 90% and 85 students scored above 75 %.

In Class X board exam also we had a wonderful  result. Total students appeared is 92 and 37 students scored above 90 %

Anamika J. Ajayan scored 98 %. Arjun Divakar and Hridya Hari secured  97% and became  the toppers.

SCHOOL REOPENING

After the summer break Sabarigiri English School reopened on 6th June 2019. A special assembly was conducted to welcome all the students.

KG REOPENING

The KG section of our school was given a grand welcome by the entire Sabarigiri English School family on 10th June 2019. Each child is treated as a precious jewel in our campus. The Chairman and Principal welcomed all the kids with Toys and Toffees. Our Play class & KG classrooms are air-conditioned, very beautiful and appealing though we charge only normal fees. The KG teachers take special care in the safety and security of each and every child.

OPEN HOUSE

Teachers, students and parents form the prime trio in education.  The Open House System which helps teachers to create a good rapport with parents. Open houses and class wise PTA meetings are conducted soon after each exam for the betterment of our children. 

Saturdays are kept aside especially in the lower classes for remedial teaching. Special coaching is given for the board exam students every morning and evening. Individual attention is given to each and every student. The remedial classes helped the students to improve their academic merit.

4 sets of Revision tests,  Three unit tests and term exams are conducted for classes X and XII. The model practical exams are now over, and I hope all our students will come out with flying colours in the coming board exam. 

INVESTITURE CEREMONY

The school Parliament helps the students to learn good leadership qualities discipline, dedication and dignity. We introduced the electronic voting machine to cast their votes on 30th July 2019 and the newly elected school cabinet members underwent the swearing in ceremony on 20th August  with great pride.

Arjun Divakar and Alka Suraj of class XI were selected as the Head boy and Head girl. Premchand and Anit Anna K. Thomas  of class IX were selected as the Asst. Head boy and Asst. Head girl. Mr. C.L Sudheer, Circle Inspector of Police, Anchal inaugurated the function and honoured the cabinet members with badges and sashes.

SOCIAL AND CULTURAL ACTIVITIES

The Sabarigiri English School family stretched out its hands to help those whose lives were havocked by the floods this year. Our school tried its best to help the victims by conducting medical camps and donations in cash or in kind. The school management, Students and parents responded with equal vigour to this humanitarian call for help. This move not only satiated them but also filled us with immense satisfaction. We also contributed to the Chief Minister's Flood Relief Fund.

On September 3rd Sabarigiri team organized a medical camp at Nilambur (Malapuram) under the leadership of our Chairman Dr. V.K. Jayakumar and Secretary Dr. Sabareesh Jayakumar and the Principal.

Medical treatment, food, clothes and other essentials to life were distributed among the victims of the flood affected areas.

RANGOTSAV

The entire school is divided into four houses namely Gokhale, Nehru, Nethaji, and Patel. All the competitions were held house wise. On 22nd August 2019 Rangotsav was conducted in a magnificent manner. It helped to bring out the hidden talents of students. Also it provided a platform for the children to showcase their talents. All the literary items, paintings, dance, music, anchoring etc helped us to pick out many aspirants for the future world of performing arts.

CBSE Kollam District Kalotsav

The CBSE Kollam District Kalotsav was held on 10th October at Mannam Memorial Residential Public School, Valathungal, Kollam and Lake ford School, Kollam. More than 42 schools participated in the kalotsav. Many students from our school participated in various arts and literary items. Wonderful performance of our students brought laudable laurels to the school. We won 1st prize with A grade in mime, western music, elocution English, light music and classical music. 2nd prize with A grade in folk dance, bharathanatyam, cartoon collage, poster designing, duffmutt, oppana and extempore English. We got 3rd prize with A grade in one act play, recitation English, Hindi, Malayalam and altogether we secured a total of 601 points.

STATE CBSE KALOTSAV

The State CBSE Kalotsav was held at Carmal CMI Public School, Vazhakulam, Thodupuzha on 14th November 2019. Only 12 students could participate in the state kalotsav inspite of many students being eligible for the same only because of the term exam at that time. Ashlin Johnson (XI A) got IInd with A grade in English Recitation Devalekshmi (VI B) got IInd A grade in bharathanatyam. Serin Elizabeth Aniyan, Abhirami Gireesh, Evangelin Johnson and Mohammed Anas secured A grade in various items.

ANCHAL FEST

Our talented students enchanted the audience with their breathtaking performance in Anchal Fest held on 15th October 2019 in collaboration with Kerala Kaumudi. The public acknowledged and appreciated the cultural feast served by the school team.

ONAM CELEBRATION

The School observed and celebrated all the important days with great pomp and pride. Dr. Draupadi Praveen was the chief guest of this year's Onam celebration. Our students celebrated onam with the inmates of Arpitha old age home of elderly women inmates, Anchal. Students contributed onakkodi to the poor mothers. Class 12 students served "Onasadya" for them. Variety entertainment programme like Thiruvathira, Onappattu, Athapookkalam, Tug of war etc were held on this occasion.

GURU DEVO BHAVA

Enthusiasm and festivity marked the Teachers Day celebration on 5th September 2019. Students took on the role of their beloved teachers. The students honoured their teachers with token of love and in return they were entertained by their teachers. On this occasion Krishnaveni Principal of Sabarigiri New Generation School, Nilamel was the chief guest.  

FOUNDERS DAY CELEBRATION

Founders Day celebration was conducted on 2nd October 2019 at Sabarigiri International School Trivandrum. On this occasion Honourable Minister
Sri. Kadakampally Surendran (Minister of Tourism and Devaswom Board), Honourable Minister Adv. K. Raju (Minister of Forests and Wild life), Mr. Manish Kumar Tyagi, (Assistant Secretary CBSE Regional Office, Trivandrum), Padmasree M.R. Rajagopal (Father of Palliative Care) were some of the dignitaries who graced the function.  Students and teachers from all Sabarigiri institutions and well wishers presented variety programmes and made the function a memorable one. Our students and teachers presented the dramatic version of Dr. V. K. Jayakumar's poem Kandaharile Paithal and received a great applaud of appreciation.

VIDYARAMBHAM

On 8th October 2019 Dr. V.K. Jayakumar, the Founder and Chairman of Sabarigiri Schools initiated many kids into the world of learning. On the auspicious occasion kids scribbled their first letter and in connection with this programme various entertainment programmes and a musical concert by students were organized in the school auditorium.

SABARIGIRI LITERARY COMPETITIONS.

To promote the literary talents, this year we conducted Sabarigiri Literary Competitions on 29th July 2019. The competitions were held category wise to all the students of Sabarigiri Group of Institutions and the parents . The winners were appreciated in a prestigious function at the 13th Malayatoor Award distribution  ceremony on 19th October 2019 at Sabarigiri School Auditorium. Great literary figures Sri K. Jayakumar IAS, Sri Perumbadavam Sreedharan, Dr. V.K. Jayakumar, Sri. Sakkaria, Smt. Lekshmi Devi graced the occasion. Malayattoor Award was initiated by Sabarigiri Educational & Cultural Society.

KIDDIES TALENT SHOW

On 14th November 2019 the campus was in a festive mood with the children in their colourful outfits with great exuberance. The blooming buds of our school got a platform to showcase their talent in the Kiddies Talent Day Celebration.

VENAD KIDS FEST

Sabarigiri English School, Anchal has  bagged the Overall championship Trophy in the 3rd  Venad Sahodaya Kids Fest Rainbow 2019 conducted at National Public School, Kollam, on 30th November 2019. It is the 3rd time that our school is holding the top honor in the yearly kids fest. Among 22 CBSE school of Kollam district that participated in the competition, our smart kids stood first in position. Yes, The overall championship in category I, Runner up in category II and overall championship in play class section were bagged by our kids. Play class category was added for the first time in this competition.     

C.V. RAMAN INTER SCHOOL COMPETITION

The school quiz team participated in the Science Quiz conducted by Venad Sahodaya on 22nd November 2019. In the secondary level we won the first prize and in the senior secondary level we were in the 3rd position.

The science exhibition which was organized by Venad Sahodaya was held at S.N Central School, Nedungolam, Kollam. The team from our school, master Ashok Krishna (XII) and Alfin  Muhammed (XI) exhibited an innovative idea of Air purifier in the working model category and secured first prize in the senior secondary level. Our school grabbed the overall champion trophy in the senior secondary level.   

RAJADHANI SCIENCE EXPO

On 6th December our students participated in Rajadhani Science Expo organized by Rajadhani Institute of  Engineering and Technology.

Many of our students won certificates and prizes in the online quiz competition of NASA conducted by Go 4 Guru.

CHRISTMAS CELEBRATION

On December 19th 2019  we celebrated Christmas in a grand manner. 
Rev. Fr. Arun Thomas (Vicar, Shalem Marthoma Church, Mannoor) conveyed the Christmas message.  Various entertainment programmes like Carol song, skit, dance etc. were presented by the children.  Dr. V. K. Jayakumar, Chairman Sabarigiri Schools, Dr. Sabareesh Jayakumar Secretary SECS, Mrs. N. Sula Manager and Principal Malini S.V were presented in the auspicious occasion.

TEACHER EMPOWERMENT PROGRAMMES

To equip our teachers to excel, many faculty improvement programmes were held. Interactive sessions with resource persons were arranged throughout the year.

Principal & teachers attended different empowerment programmes organized by CBSE  and Venad Sahodaya .

Teachers attended a training programme on Children and Impaired Vision conducted by Lions Club on 20th October 2019.  Later the trained teachers conducted a vision test for all the students and detected that more than 125 students having impaired vision. All the students who had problems were advised to consult an ophthalmologist.

CLUBS & ACTIVITIES.

a)    Sabarigiri English school has various clubs, which provides a platform for the children to showcase their inborn talents.

b)    Bulletin Boards which is given to each house provide an opportunity to our children to express their artistic and creative talents in a competitive manner.

c)     The faculty of Robotic Lab provided a thought provoking and intellectual quiz on their board every week which motivates the children regularly. There is healthy competition among the children to answer such question.

d)   We take special initiative to prepare the children for IIT, engineering and medical entrance stream.

e)    We conducted a motivation class on 18th September by Prof. Oommen Varghese, the famous Civil service trainer from Kerala Civil Service Academy Trivandrum. It is to enhance the Sabarigiri Civil service foundation programme for our brilliant students.

f)      Extra effort is being taken for moulding their talent in skating, karate, music, dance etc. Yoga day and music day were celebrated with great vigour on 21st june 2019.

g)    Science club members conducted a debate competition on Environmental Day.

h)   The poster designing competition was conducted with respect to the Anti Drug Day celebration on 27th June.

i)      Doctors Day and Vanamahotsava were celebrated on 1st July with great enthusiasm. National festivals like Independence day and Gandhi Jayanthi were Celebrated with great pride and pleasure.

j)      Malayala Manorama  Nalla padam project is very active in our school. We have conducted many programmes under this project.

k)    The members of Nalla padam project in collaboration with Malayala Manoramma submitted a memorandum in connection with carbon neutral environment to the Prime Minister of India and the Chief Minister of Kerala. All the Sabarigirians put their signature in the memorandum as they realized that it is the need of the hour.

l)      Our New year resolution is to keep our campus plastic free. For substituting plastic bags we are training our students with the help of an expert to prepare biodegradable bags with paper and clothes.

m) Mathrubhumi Seed We initiated the project of kitchen garden and a fruit orchard in collaboration with Mathrubhumi seed program. The harvest festival of different vegetables, was conducted with great zeal and enthusiasm by the end of December.

n)   Our school was awarded a certificate of commendation by Mathurbhumi seed for the project during the academic year 2018-19.

NCC Air wing

The NCC air wing cadets of our school is very active and they take part in all school activities. On 2nd Oct as a part of swatch Bharat, they cleaned the campus class rooms as well as the premises under the leadership of our NCC in charge Mr. Prasanth.

            11 cadets of N.C.C are getting the golden opportunity to act as co-pilot in the micro light air flying at Naval base Kochi.

Hindustan Scouts and Guides

The scarf giving ceremony of scouts and guides was done by Dr. K.K. Shajahan, HSG Kollam Dist Commissioner. The members of HSG actively took part in all school activities, especially they offered their service in flood relief camps and medical camp at Nilambur the flood striken area.

Rajyapuraskar Award

            Six students of our school team received the Rajyapuraskar award from Honourable former Governor P. Sadasivam. The principal was honoured Best Achiever Award, the teacher trainer Mrs. Honey Noushad received medal of merit and the members of Hindustan Scouts and Guides, master  Anok Biju (IX-A), Jagan Jayaprakash (IX A) Gayathri Manoj (VIII A) Aadhila Shameer (VIII A), Ibrahim Badusha (VIII-B) and Anushma.A (VII A) were honoured Rajyapuraskar award by Honourable Governor.

TOURS AND TRIPS

It has been an endeavor to provide an experience of the outside world to our students. A school trip is a learning experience in the joyful company of friends and peers.

All the students including KG section got an opportunity to enjoy in such trips.

We have organized trips and taken our children to Happy land, Magic planet, Wonderla and also the higher section students got an opportunity to be a part of a long tour to Mysore, Coorg and Wayanad which they enjoyed very much.

SPORTS AND GAMES

As we know that sports and games are essential for both physical and mental development, undoubtedly sports form an integral part of the life of each Sabarigirian.

As per the new guidelines of CBSE more PT periods are given to each class

a)    We conducted the Annual Athletic meet on 23rd November 2019. All the four houses participated in various events with vigour  and enthusiasm.

b)    The Inter house cricket match for juniors and seniors was conducted on 23rd September 2019.

c)     The Inter house Foot ball competitions for junior and senior students were conducted on 19th September 2019.

d)   Adithyadev Shiphi of Class XII secured Silver medal in 1st South Zone National Roll Ball Championship held at Dindigal, Tamil Nadu. He also secured the gold medal in 13th Kerala State senior roll ball championship 2019.

e)    Our students participated in the Inter School Basketball Competition conducted by Venad Sahodaya at Oxford Central School, Kollam.

f)      41st Annual sports Day was conducted on 6th December 2019. The winner of 5th Roll ball world champion and first women player from Kerala in Indian team, Miss. B.S. Sreelekshmi was the chief guest of the occasion.

g)    The students presented various sports displays and the individual champions were given prizes and certificates.

h)   We are hosting the Venad Sahodaya Roller skating championship on 17th and 18th January 2020.

i)      The school also got a new recognition in fitness and sports apparatus. We received Fit India Certificate from Govt. of India, the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.

            I assure you that SES campus will be an Anger-free zone which helps both the students and teachers mentally active and emotionally happy. The cool campus ensures joyful education and holistic fitness. The best way to teach the children the value of freedom from anger is by setting an example ourselves.

            Artificial Intelligence has become an integral part of CBSE curriculum. Sabarigirians are lucky to have a wonderful Robotic lab in our campus. The official inauguration of our Robotic lab was done on 20th June 2019 by Dr. Sheela, Principal Mohandas Engineering College, Trivandrum.

Atal Tinkering Lab

Technology is mother of civilization of arts & of science.

            Our school has been selected for establishing a project by Govt. of India to make a tinkering lab, which would teach student essential 21st century skills which will help them in developing their professional and personal skills.

Acknowledgement

            Before concluding my report let me express my profound gratitude to our Chairman for his valuable advice and guidance. I also owe my gratitude to manager Mrs. N. Sula madam for her timely advice and support. I would like to express my sincere gratitude to Dr. Sabareesh Jayakumar (Secretary, SECS) for his continuous support which had helped me a lot in discharging my responsibilities as a principal of this august institution.  I am also thankful to all the members of the managing committee.

            I also express my sincere thanks for the co-operation extended by our beloved parents of this school, who have shown unflinching faith in us by giving us the profound opportunity to transform their children into truly useful citizens of the future world. After the sad demise of Utham Rajeev, who was a gifted student of our school, his dear father has offered a cash award and memento to the best all rounder student in class X every year. My special thanks to his father Mr. Rajeev.

            With that let us foresee a world of universal singularity where our children are going to be the propellant of the change and world shall be a beautiful place to live in.

            I would like to thank all my teaching and non teaching staff, all well wishers, media for their constant support and encouragement to maintain high standards of education and discipline in our school.

            To conclude I would like to quote while we are living in the present, we must celebrate life everyday, knowing that we are becoming history with every work, every action and every deed.  Our journey has started and we have many miles to go before our goals are achieved.  

            Lastly I pray to God almighty and thank him for His blessings to me and the institution in achieving excellent performance.
